Jay Lauterwasser - Bass & Vocals

What's in your CD player now?

  1. Wilco "Sky Blue Sky" ... This album has some of the best lead guitar work ever; not to mention I was a huge Uncle Tupelo fan.
  2. Frank Zappa "Buffalo" ... This was the touring band comprised mostly of the same band that played on the album 'Joe's Garage' which was one of my favorite Zappa bands.
  3. The Shins "Chutes Too Narrow" ... To be honest I love all things The Shins but lately this has been the disc I most identify with.
  4. Steely Dan "Aja" ... This is my favorite Steely Dan album although that is a very hard decision to make. There is something about listening to this CD in the spring time.
  5. The Beatles "The White Album" ... Again this is more of a 'spring time' CD for me bedsides you can never go wrong with the Beatles.

Desert island DVDs? (up to five, with brief explanation RE why you like each film)

  1. Top Secret - Best underwater bar room fight scene ever!
  2. Ghostbusters - I can almost quote this movie from beginning to end.
  3. Garden State - This movie has a great soundtrack and its just odd enough to be fun.
  4. The Empire Strikes Back - Because it was the best of the three.
  5. Life of Brian - One of those movies I can watch over and over again and still laugh.

Favorite band of all time?

Not sure if this counts since it's not technically a 'band' but Frank Zappa. My parents were very much into music as I was growing up and one of the many great musicians they turned me on too was Frank Zappa; so it's kind of like 'comfort food' for the ears. He was an amazing musician and composer and had a knack for putting together some of the best groups of musicians to back him up. I strive to be the type of musician that Frank Zappa would have called for an audition. I have a bit to go before I reach that goal.

Last book read (with brief description)?

Soul Music by Terry Pratchett. It happens in a different universe where the world is a great big disc carried by four elephants on top of a flying cosmic turtle. This particular book is about a band that learns how to rock in this odd world. The book in itself is almost a retelling of American music history because the band transforms through out the book while 'inventing' Rock and Roll. It involves Trolls, Dwarves, Death and his very own grand daughter.

What magazines do you subscribe to? (up to five, with brief explanations why you like)

Paste Magazine because it's a well written music magazine that doesn't just focus on the flavor of the month. I have discovered a quite a few good bands because of Paste.

Favorite Twilight Zone?

The one where this guy with a love for reading and a hatred for those around him finds himself in the basement of the Library when some catastrophe happens. It ends with him walking outside discovering that there is no one alive to interfere with his reading only to drop and break his glasses.
